It was Symbolics computers of Cambridge that registered the first .com domain name, symbolics.com, in March 1985. Bbn.com, the second .com domain name, was registered in april 1985, think.com in May and mcc.com in July 1985. At the end of 1985 there were 6 registered .com domain names.

Today 100 000 domain names are registered each day, and there are approximately 86 millions of active .com domain names. During the past 25 years, 311 million .com domain names have been registered and deleted.
